September Journaling and Writing Prompts

Today, I offer you writing and journaling prompts for September, along with some writing prompts that are just for fun. We don’t have to be serious allll the time! Writing can give you a break in your day, reduce your stress, and even be fun. YES, fun!

Enjoy! I hope you’re writing, at least a little, every day.

September Journaling and Writing Prompts

  1. September has a “new notebook” feeling. What part of your life would you like to begin again, even in a small way?
  2. Write about a September from your childhood. What did the air smell like? What were you wearing? Who was nearby?
  3. Imagine September is a guest arriving at your door with a small suitcase. What does it bring you, and what does it ask you to leave behind?
  4. Make a list of the things that help you feel grounded as the season begins to shift. Choose one and write about why it matters.
  5. Write a letter to yourself on the first cool evening of September. Offer encouragement for the months ahead.

Just-for-fun prompts

  1. You discover that your coffee mug, favorite chair, or kitchen spoon has been quietly keeping a diary about you. Write one page from its point of view.
  2. A friendly stranger hands you a sealed envelope that says, “Open only when you are ready for a little adventure.” What happens when you open it?
  3. If your life had a theme song this week, what would it be called? Write the lyrics to the chorus.
  4. You are given a tiny shop that can sell only one unusual thing. What do you sell, who comes in, and what stories do they tell?
  5. Write about the day your pet, houseplant, or most stubborn household object finally decided to speak. What is the first thing it says?

Thanks and happy writing!
