Journaling Retreat: Time to Take Care of You!

I’m planning a 3-hour retreat for late summer/early fall, perhaps September 2026, in the Grand Valley area. It will be a day of journaling-related self-care, where we not only learn and practice a variety of journaling techniques, but we’ll also make a simple journal (no art experience required), we’ll enjoy refreshments, and we’ll have a chance to connect with others. I may have other self-care opportunities, too. This plan hinges on whether there is enough interest and participation! I will need at least 10 people to make this feasible. Interested? What are people saying about my journaling sessions?

Melody recently facilitated a five-week virtual journaling workshop for the DeWolf Innovation Center for Aging and Dementia in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The participants were family caregivers, Center volunteers, caregivers dealing with the loss of the person they cared for, and people living with dementia. Each workshop session was engaging, supportive, and inspiring for the participants:
  • “Melody was very uplifting, stimulating, and always encouraged participant interaction. I rate her as excellent!”
  • “Melody had lots of energy and was very eager to give compliments and positive feedback!”
  • “I have never journaled before and the workshop has been a very uplifting, positive, and beneficial experience.”
  • “Melody’s workshop has helped me be more in the moment and stop ruminating about the past.”
  • “I feel more supported, have made new friends, and am more grateful.  Keep the weekly gratitude assignment!
Melody creates a safe space that allows people to discover their goodness and curiosity through writing. She helped participants find natural ways to develop a journaling practice into their daily lives. – Mary Ann H. I recently completed Melody Jones’ “Renew and Rejuvenate Journaling series” and greatly recommend it for anyone wanting to go deeper into self-discovery through journaling. Melody is an astute observer with a natural ability to individualize her guidance. Through her thoughtful, soul-searching questions, she both challenged and inspired me to move forward in my own personal growth. Melody managed with her quick wit and sense of humor, as we pulled up our dregs, to inspire chuckles and laughter and keep things real! I left each class wanting to turn around and go back. Whether you are new to journaling or want to deepen your experience, take this class from Melody Jones! – Terri Racette
