July Writing Prompts

July Writing PromptsJuly is here and the summer is in full swing. Many places are getting back to familiar summer activities, and, of course, the heat is on! What better time to pour a cold beverage and take a few minutes to get some writing done?

Here are some July writing prompts to get you moving. As always, I urge you to write by hand and write for at least 10 minutes.

  • Write about a day so hot, even the asphalt melts.
  • What fun memories do you have of childhood July 4th Independence Day celebrations?
  • Imagine a camping trip in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado at 10,000+ feet above sea level. Incorporate all five senses: what do you see, hear, taste, feel, and smell?
  • Discuss the merits of lemonade versus iced tea.
  • Make a list of all the ice cream flavors you can think of. Now write a four-line poem, where lines 2 and 4 rhyme, using two, three, or four ice cream flavors.

Have fun with these writing prompts!

To your writing life,

Melody
